In the Belgorod region, they first postponed, and now they are thinking about canceling the “Ski Tracks of Russia” due to insufficient snow thickness. The topic was discussed at an operational meeting of the regional government on February 13.
Sports Minister Natalya Zhigalova said that on Monday a commission would go to the track to check the thickness of the snow cover. If everything goes well, then the sporting event will be held this Saturday, February 18th.
A representative of the ministry cited the Kursk region as an example – the Ski Track of Russia was held there, but after the race, many complaints were received from the participants because of the skis worn off on the asphalt.
Vyacheslav Gladkov agreed that it makes sense to hold the event only if the weather permits. He noted that there is artificial snow on the Olympia track, but the capacities of the existing installations will not be enough for mass races.
