This result is the fruit of the work in training.”
Dancing on ice surprised with new young participants. The winners were a bright couple who captivated the audience of Yubileiny, Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Valery Angelopol.
The first impression is enchanting. Russian figure skating is absolutely self-sufficient and remains the leader. There are so many athletes that not even all the strong ones made it to the final. Freed from the hunt for Russian witches, political press and doping stress, Russian figure skating shot and renewed itself. There are new names of both skaters and coaches.
High speed. Excellent glide. Masterfully executed and very complex tracks. The ratings are incredibly high.
The second impression is sobering. The musical accompaniment surprised me. Unfortunately, athletes often take the same tracks, mainly from foreign films or musicals. Almost all of the songs are in English, which is starting to look rather defiant. If anyone watches Russian competitions abroad, he tends to Russian culture. Attention, however, is focused on the World Junior Championships in Calgary, Canada. Russians are not there. For the first time in 23 years, Ukrainian figure skaters Violetta Serova and Ivan Hobta won with a mascot dog named Patron. They speak Russian.

However, the assessment system itself does not guarantee objectivity. Changes to the Grand Prix were made by Evgeni Plushenko, who defended the interests of his Angela Plushenko school, where his athlete Veronika Zhilina won the junior competition.

This is possible in Russia, but not in the West. Comparisons of scores should take into account the therapeutic exceptions that winners from the United States and Western Europe are generously endowed with. Russian athletes cannot receive a TUE. The distribution of places in St. Petersburg was affected by the political background of the last Olympics with the participation of Russian figure skaters. Alexandra Trusova left the show. Russian sport is based on beauty. In Russia, sports where there are no power moves are especially popular – volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, figure skating.
Figure skating from the first international competitions brought Russian athletes to the lead. Naturally, this caused anger in the West.
In the sixties, Western training methods penetrated into Russia, adapted to the use of stimulants and manifestations of aggression in various forms.
In the nineties, the system of children’s coaches was destroyed. Youth sports school has ceased to be a second home for other athletes.
All this was not enough to fulfill the Anglo-Saxon goal of “ending the dominance of Russians in figure skating.” After the liquidation of Rossport, together with its leader Vyacheslav Fetisov, he, as deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee on social policy, was going to seriously address the situation in the Youth Sports School system. It turned out exactly the opposite. A wave of mergers and acquisitions took place in the Figure Skating Youth Sports School in parallel with the attack on coaches.
From this, children’s figure skating not only did not die, but rather flourished, moving under the IP umbrella. Parents just started paying more. However, “budget places” appeared. There are cases when a coach takes a promising child to his house and keeps him if his parents are not interested in his sporting fate.
Punishments and physical impact have gone from the system of training young skaters. Children’s trainers actually educate their wards with the power of words and a flexible reward system.
Parents have changed a lot. There have been no cases of harmful interference on their part for a long time. Parents are in control and helping schools get rid of coaches with conflicts of interest.
All this had a positive impact during the Grand Prix. The girls are very strong, almost all of them with quadruple jumps, including “expensive” ones, such as lutz, flip and rittberger.
There is a problem with young men. Boys mature later. In the critical for the formation of the future athlete, they have a lack of motivation. For boys, a special training system is required, which not all coaches own. At a critical age, a boy can be broken by one harsh word. Girls have the opposite reaction, it is much easier with them.
As a result, the results of boys are less stable than girls. At the Grand Prix finals, there was a surprise with a huge difference between the results of the short and free program of 40 points for Dmitry Aliev, who rose from the penultimate eleventh place to the prize second.
An important point. Long gone are the days when figure skating competitions were not broadcast. Now everything can be seen on the Internet. And figure skating is insanely beautiful, and the skaters themselves are special, harmonious people.
Even a person who is far from sports is pleased to watch the performances of figure skaters, who every year surpass their own achievements and the wildest expectations of the fans.
