In Tatarstan launched a carrier ship for “Caliber”

Today, on December 9, a new project 21631 small missile ship was launched in Tatarstan. This was reported by the RF Ministry of Defense. By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, the new combat unit was given the name “Naro-Fominsk”.
The ship was launched in Zelenodolsk. It was here, at the plant named after A.m. Gorky, Project 21631 ships have been under construction for 12 years.
“The ships of this project brilliantly demonstrated their high capabilities during the Russian military operation in Syria,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
For example, the “classmates” of “Naro-Fominsk” – “Uglich”, “Grad Sviyazhsk” and “Veliky Ustyug” in October 2015 from the Caspian Sea attacked the positions of terrorists with “Caliber”. In total, 26 launches of cruise missiles were carried out against 11 ground targets located at a distance of about 1,500 km.
Now nine such ships are serving and performing combat missions as part of the Russian Navy. “Naro-Fominsk” is the eleventh serial of project 21631.
“The expanded serial construction of multi-purpose surface ships makes it possible to update the surface component of the Navy forces in accordance with the plan, significantly enhances the potential of the fleets and increases the efficiency of fulfilling the assigned tasks. The crews of the new ships are being trained at the Joint Training Center of the Navy according to modern programs, ”Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Nikolai Evmenov commented on the commissioning of the new ship.
Project 21631 small missile ships are multi-purpose river-sea combat units designed to guard and protect the state’s economic zone in the inland sea basins. Now state tests are being carried out by MRK Grad 21631 Buyan-M, which will become part of the Baltic Fleet by the end of 2022.
