From April 1, Russia will begin blocking expired goods at checkouts

In Russia, a mechanism has begun to operate that blocks the sale of expired and illegal goods at the checkout using a labeling system.

This measure came into force on April 1. At first it affected tobacco, draft beer and low-alcohol drinks from kegs. According to Deputy General Director of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (operator of the Honest Sign labeling system) Revaz Yusupov, the initiative will help protect Russians from purchasing goods with violations.

The expert noted that if a product has expired or its sale is prohibited by regulatory authorities, or if they are trying to sell a product with a reused labeling code, information about the impossibility of completing the transaction will be transmitted to the checkout.

From April 1, the rules for the sale of tobacco products in Russia have also changed. In particular, criminal liability has been introduced for the illegal production and trafficking of tobacco and nicotine-containing products in large quantities.
