In Russia, the birth rate has risen again

The birth rate in Russia in May increased by 1.3% in annual terms. This is evidenced by the data of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), published on Friday, July 14.
In May, 104.5 thousand babies were born in Russia, while in May 2022 the figure was almost 103.2 thousand.
Before that, the birth rate growth in the country was noted in January – by 0.4%. This has happened for the first time since November 2021.
Along with this, the death rate in May increased by 3.9% year-on-year: almost 152.8 thousand people died in the Russian Federation against 147 thousand a year earlier.
Earlier, at a government hour in the Federation Council, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova voiced list of regions of the country with low birth rates. It included the Leningrad, Smolensk, Ryazan, Tula, Vladimir, Penza, Oryol, Tambov, Saratov regions and the Republic of Mordovia. For these entities, it is necessary, including through the efforts of the regions, to develop additional support measures, the deputy head of the Cabinet said.
