In Russia, set the conditions for the arrest of entrepreneurs

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law aimed at liberalizing criminal proceedings against entrepreneurs. Document published on the official portal of legal information.

The law establishes the conditions under which the court has the right to send an entrepreneur accused of committing economic crimes into custody: if the businessman does not have a place of residence in Russia, has previously violated the chosen measure of restraint or was hiding from the investigation or court. In other cases, the court is obliged to give priority to those preventive measures under which the entrepreneur can continue to work.

In addition, the law requires the consent of the head of the investigative body to extend the arrest for more than two months. The document also clarifies that in the event of an extension of the investigation, this fact cannot be the only argument for extending the arrest of the entrepreneur. The investigation must substantiate the reason for the extension of the detention of the accused in the pre-trial detention center.

Amendments to the Criminal Code were prepared on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. They are directed against the abuse of the institution of detention. As State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin previously reported, they will not create a threat to business and will not block the work of enterprises.
