Politico: Germany broke its promise to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to treat wounded soldiers
The German authorities do not always fulfill their promises to pay for the treatment of wounded Ukrainian soldiers. It is reported by Politico with reference to the documents of the German Ministry of Health.
According to the publication, often the soldiers themselves or non-profit organizations have to pay for the treatment. At the same time, the German authorities promised Ukrainians free and quick access to medicine.
“The organization and financing of emergency medical care in some regions were forced to be taken over by private groups,” the journalists point out.
In addition, the treatment process is slow due to bureaucratic checks. A doctor from Berlin, on condition of anonymity, said that some of the wounded, who, among other things, need amputation, do not receive medical care for weeks.
The office of head of government Olaf Scholz stated that the costs of treatment are covered if the preconditions under the Social Security Code are met. The issue of covering expenses is decided on a case-by-case basis, is summarized in the article.
