In Tyumen, the court invalidated the marriage of two Russians, in which one of the spouses changed sex. This is reported Ura.ru with reference to the couple’s lawyer. He noted that such a precedent in Russia occurred for the first time.
“The claims of the prosecutor’s office to recognize the marriage of my principals as invalid were satisfied,” the representative of the Russians said.
Whether the Tyumen residents will appeal against the court’s decision is unknown.
Residents of the city got married in 2019. Later, one of the spouses (husband) performed a sex change operation. This fact was officially registered in September 2022.
After that, the city prosecutor went to court demanding that the marriage be declared invalid, since, according to the amendments to the Constitution, only the union between a man and a woman is considered marriage in the Russian Federation.
