In Russia, 2022 turned out to be a “catastrophic” year for picking mushrooms

Mushroom expert and popular blogger Dmitry Tikhomirov told Radio Sputnik, why in Central Russia this year it is bad with forest mushrooms, and whether the situation can improve. “There is absolute desert in the forests near Moscow. There is nothing there, not even grebes, not even autumn mushrooms,” he says.
According to Tikhomirov, the forests lacked moisture this year.
“Precipitation is sorely lacking, I don’t even remember such a September. Individual droplets that are now falling from the sky do not give anything. In my memory, this is the most disastrous year, there were no mushrooms for the whole season,” the expert notes, but suggests not to lose hope: rains in the second half of September could save the situation.
“But only if there are no dry frosts. If there are frosts without rain, then mushrooms will not appear this season, we will have to wait for next year,” the expert on “silent hunting” notes. And he recalls that over the years of his observations of forest harvests, there were also cases when mushrooms appeared in the middle lane until the New Year holidays.
