The personal file of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin has been declassified. This is reported by the Roskosmos magazine “Russian Space”.
The secrecy stamp was removed from the case back in September at the initiative of Roskosmos, but this information was made public only now. The document is now available to researchers.
Gagarin’s personal file reveals some details of his biography, which were not previously given much attention. For example, the documents say that he received a Komsomol ticket in December 1949, a party ticket in June 1960.
Also in the personal file there is information about his training at the Aeroclub, then at the aviation school, about his service in the fighter aviation of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet and training in military unit No. 26266 (Cosmonaut Training Center).
The documents indicate that Gagarin had the first judicial category in basketball. It is noted that he did not go to the seventh grade in his native Gzhatsk, but instead went to enter a vocational school in Moscow. The reason is the “insufficient material condition” of the parents.
There was a famine in the Smolensk region in 1949. This forced Gagarin to leave school at the age of 15 and leave to enter a state-supported school. No one knows what his fate would have been like if he had stayed to study in his native city, notes Rossiyskiy Kosmos.
