In Ostafyevo they decided to “revive” the famous herbarium of the last owner of the estate

The flower garden of Countess Ekaterina Sheremeteva will be planted along the new eco-trail

Several new attractions will appear in the state museum-reserve “Ostafyevo – Russian Parnassus” during the arrangement of the Fruit Garden and the English Garden behind the pond. One of them will be the “revived herbarium” of Countess Sheremetyeva.

The transformations planned for this year will affect the so-called dammed (located behind the Big Pond and the Lubocha River) part of the estate. The part closest to the palace is the English Garden (Ragovo Grove), then the Fruit Garden – specialists will landscape the gardens and organize lighting on them. In addition, several buildings will appear here.

In the northern far part of the dammed area, on the site where brick barns stood in the second half of the 19th century, it is planned to build a multifunctional complex. It will have the shape of a traditional square, characteristic of economic estate complexes of the 18th-19th centuries. The recreational area will be located in the southern part of the complex, on the side of the large meadow. There will be a food service, a visitor center, and a children’s play area. Opposite there will be a children’s playground made mainly of wood.

It is also planned to install a wooden carousel gazebo, made similar to those built at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries. There will also be swings here, as it was during the time of the Vyazemsky princes, who built the estate. There is a pedestrian bridge across the Lyubocha River in the area of ​​the multifunctional complex. The road and path network will be restored according to old maps, the paths will be partially filled with crushed stone, and partially made in the form of wooden flooring.

But the main new attraction will be the eco-trail. The last owner of the estate, Ekaterina Sheremeteva, née Vyazemskaya, is known, in particular, for having collected a unique natural history collection. For this she is often called “Tretyakov from botany.” A significant part of the scientific collection consisted of plants growing in the Moscow province. These plants will be planted along the Ostafevskaya eco-trail.
