In Orenburg Novotroitsk, evacuation began due to overflow of a dam

Governor of the Orenburg Region Denis Pasler reported that the Novotroitsk authorities are evacuating residents of Sevastopolskaya Street to temporary accommodation centers due to overflowing the protective dam. Now work is underway to fill it, the head of the region added.

“The dam, according to Novotroysk residents, was built after a large-scale flood in 1957 and protects the city area from the water that fills Lake Sazanye during the flood period,” Mr. Pasler wrote in Telegram. He clarified that the water level in the lake is now at 8.5 m. The governor said that special equipment is in place and the situation is under control.

In Orenburg, Orsk and other settlements of the Orenburg region, partial evacuation has been announced due to flooding. In Orsk, after a dam broke, the Old Town, part of the New Town and some villages included in the settlement were flooded. From the flood zone in Orenburg evacuated 786 people.

Today, April 8, from Orsk gradually started water recede. From the evening of April 7 to this morning, the level of the Ural River in the city fell by 9 cm, to 963 cm. At the same time, the water is rising in Orenburg. In the capital of the region, the increase was 16 cm per day, up to 872 cm.
