Freya the walrus was euthanized by the Norwegian Fisheries Authority due to a safety hazard, the Norwegian Fisheries Authority said in a press release.

The walrus, who became a favorite of Oslo residents, was reportedly euthanized in a humane way: in accordance with current procedures and regulations for the euthanasia of marine mammals.
Oslo residents and tourists ignored the advice to keep their distance from Freya the walrus for a long time. People came up endlessly to stroke and take pictures with a mammal that settled in the Oslo Fjord. Management experts concluded that the likelihood of a potential threat to people is high.
As reported. various options for resolving this situation were studied, but the movement of the animal turned out to be impossible.
As previously reported by the media, the walrus herself sailed to the Oslo Fjord. She flooded several boats during her stay, but no one thought to drive away the 600-kilogram animal. On the contrary, residents and guests of Oslo took pictures with her, filmed the mammal’s games on video.
The animal carcass was handed over to specialists for further processing and veterinary examination.
