Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu laid flowers at the monument to employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Moscow and took part in the opening ceremony of the monument to the former head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Yevgeny Zinichev. The opening ceremony of the monument was also attended by the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov, presidential aide Dmitry Mironov, the governor of the Tula region Evgeny Dyumin, the current head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov and the widow of the deceased minister Natalia Zinicheva.
Evgeny Zinichev died on September 8, 2021. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Mr. Zinichev died “during the interdepartmental exercises to protect the Arctic zone, saving a person.” According to “Novaya Gazeta”the minister, together with film director Alexander Melnik, approached a cliff in the Putorana Reserve, after which one of them stumbled, and the other tried to grab him by his clothes, but could not hold on to the wet stones.
