In Moscow, neural networks began to study CT scans of the lungs for signs of aortic aneurysm

Artificial intelligence, which helps doctors in the capital to identify pathologies based on the results of computed tomography of the chest, now checks CT scans for signs of an aortic aneurysm.
Neural networks have been used in the metropolitan healthcare system for several years. Today, there are about 40 AI services that help radiologists in 15 areas of research. For example, neural networks can recognize signs of lung cancer, breast cancer, COVID-19, stroke, coronary heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, osteoporosis, and other dangerous diseases on CT scans of the chest. Now this list has been added to the definition of signs of aortic aneurysm, according to the official website of the mayor of Moscow.
It is clarified that artificial intelligence will analyze all CT scans of the chest organs received by the EMIAS Unified Radiological Information Service. That is, even if a person has done a CT scan of the lungs to confirm or rule out pneumonia, neural networks will additionally check the image for the presence of an aortic aneurysm. At the same time, doctors can compare images processed by artificial intelligence services with original images in order to avoid possible errors.
Such additional research will help save the lives of many Muscovites. Indeed, often an aortic aneurysm does not manifest itself in any way, and aortic rupture can lead to a serious outcome, even death. Meanwhile, if the disease is diagnosed in a timely manner, serious health consequences can be avoided.
Now, if artificial intelligence detects signs of an aortic aneurysm in a patient, the person will be invited for additional research. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the doctor will prescribe the necessary treatment.
“In the future, people with identified pathologies will be under the control of a special working group of experienced cardiovascular surgeons of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine,” the report on mos.ru specifies.
By the way, artificial intelligence has already helped to determine the presence of aortic aneurysm in 22 patients. At the same time, most of them were not even aware of their life-threatening condition.
