The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested a student of the Moscow Regional State University and archaeologist Vladimir Panin for five days for demonstrating “Nazi paraphernalia” (part 1 of article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) for reading a book with the “SS” rune on the cover in the subway. On the morning of May 6, a student read the book “Black March. Memoirs of an SS officer. 1938-1945″ by Peter Neumann. Its cover depicts a German soldier wearing a helmet with a rune. The court considered that the young man “carried out a public demonstration to an unlimited circle of people – passengers of the Moscow Metro – Nazi paraphernalia.”
According to the Caution, News Telegram channel, the student was detained at the Chistye Prudy metro station, after which he spent the night in the police department, and the next day he was taken to court.
Vladimir Panin stated in court that “he does not adhere to the ideology of Nazism and fascism, but studied the material as a historical source due to his education.” The student studies at the Faculty of History, Political Science and Law.
Despite this, the court found him guilty. In addition, the court ruled to destroy Peter Neumann’s book, although, as Kommersant was convinced, it is freely available in paper and electronic form.
As the description of the book on one of the marketplaces says, Neumann’s work is a story about how a young man from a modest family, “fooled by Hitler’s propaganda”, became a convinced Nazi, and with weapons in his hands “confidently walked across a foreign land in order to restore justice towards the great German people.”
