Our friend and colleague passed away
Suddenly, in the prime of his creative years and strength, the editor-in-chief of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Vladimir Nikolaevich Sungorkin, our friend and colleague, who for many years headed one of the most popular publications in Russia, passed away. Journalism has lost a professional of the highest class, a wonderful organizer of our information business, a modern media manager. He has always been distinguished by an honest and direct attitude to what is happening in the country and the world, an innovative approach to communicating with numerous readers and listeners of KP. Vladimir Nikolayevich is one of the few current leaders of the media, stood at the origins of the creation of the Russian press, was and until the very last day remained one of the most active participants in this process, including the most difficult pages in the history of Russian journalism.
The editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda always preferred to be in the thick of things himself, many times personally participated in numerous actions and amazing undertakings of the newspaper, which sounded throughout the country.
“Komsomolskaya Pravda” is known, loved and read in all corners of our vast country and abroad, it comes to the house, family as a friend, helper and reliable partner. The newspaper will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary. We are sure that Vladimir Nikolaevich Sungorkin made an invaluable contribution to the almost century-long history of Komsomolskaya Pravda, which will undoubtedly be inscribed in golden letters.

Vladimir Sungorkin left as a journalist… At his post. Business trip. The tragedy happened during another KP expedition to collect material for a book about the great pioneer of the Far East, Vladimir Arseniev.
Only 68 years old. I can’t even believe that something could stop such a person. Energetic, cheerful. Healthy. Real Siberian.
Surprisingly, a stroke overtook Vladimir Nikolaevich in his native places. He was born on June 16, 1954 in Khabarovsk. Graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Far Eastern State University. And he began his journalistic career as a correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda in the construction zone of the Baikal-Amur Railway – the main construction site of the late Union, about which songs were composed at that time. Then he worked for a short time in “Soviet Russia” and returned to “KP”, already in the Moscow editorial office. And there he went from deputy editor of the department of working youth to chief editor.
Under him, Komsomolskaya Pravda turned into a publishing holding, with its own regional publications. Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda aired. Vladimir Sungorkin was repeatedly recognized as the media manager of the year. A year ago, he received the Golden Pen of Russia in the Legend of Journalism nomination. He was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
