The source said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky fired his first assistant Sergei Shefir because he himself expressed such a desire. Shefir fled Kyiv after the start of a special military operation. Then he returned, but now he has decided to leave, as he is skeptical about the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, Shefir is the founder of Studio Kvartal-95 and a close friend of Vladimir Zelensky, to whom he transferred his offshore companies, which is why Shefir was called “Zelensky’s wallet.” It is unknown whether he will be allowed to leave the game.
As the Ukrainian publication Strana notes, Shefir played a large role in the overall structure of public administration in Ukraine after Zelensky came to power and maintained contacts with oligarchs.
The relationship between Zelensky and Shefir was tested after the aide hastily left Kyiv in the first days after the start of the SVO, the first source told the publication. It was believed that his resignation was a matter of time, especially since “Shefir’s previous functionality in terms of negotiations with oligarchs was no longer relevant.” The source called Shefir’s resignation “a strengthening of the position of the head of the Presidential Office, Andrei Yermak.”
A second source close to Shefir said that the presidential aide resigned on his own initiative. “Sergey is very skeptical about what is happening in Ukraine. Therefore, he decided, roughly speaking, to “go on skis,” the source noted, adding that the question is whether Shefir will be allowed to leave.
