In Kursk and St. Petersburg, the memory of 118 crew members of the nuclear submarine missile cruiser K-141 Kursk, which sank on August 12, 2000, was honored.

Funeral events in Kursk passed at the memorial sign to the sailors of the submarine in the cemetery where 12 sailors are buried, including seven Kursk people.

“In Kursk, they remember the names of the heroes-sailors who did not return from the campaign in August 2000. Commemorative plaques were installed on the houses where the members of the Kursk crew lived, on the buildings of the educational institutions where they studied, ”the city administration said in a statement.

Memorial service for sailors in St. Petersburg passed at 12:00 at the Nikolo-Bogoyavlensky Naval Cathedral. Then, at 14:00, military honors were given to the dead sailors at the Kursk memorial at the Serafimovsky cemetery.

32 cruiser submariners are buried at the Serafimovsky cemetery. Among them is the commander of the Kursk, Hero of Russia, captain of the first rank Gennady Lyachin. In total, 56 families of dead submariners live in St. Petersburg.

Nuclear submarine missile cruiser K-141 “Kursk” of the Northern Fleet sank during the exercises. This is the largest disaster in the modern history of the Russian fleet. The dead left behind families and children. In October 2022 in Ukraine during the fighting died the son of midshipman Fanis Ishmuratov, who served on the Kursk as a turbine group technician. Danis Ishmuratov was 25 years old.
