In Kemerovo, the final of the Olympiad “Conquer Sparrow Hills!”

For three days, from March 31 to April 2, the future young Lomonosovs were tested at sites in 7 cities of Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kislovodsk, Chelyabinsk, Kemerovo and Ufa. In total, more than 2,000 people passed to the full-time final of the nineteenth season of the Olympiad. The long-awaited final within the walls of Moscow State University

At noon on Friday, March 31, dozens of schoolchildren gathered at the entrance of the Lomonosov building of Moscow State University. The participants who successfully passed the first stage of the Olympiad came to conquer Sparrow Hills in geography and journalism.

On the table, the guys have only the most necessary things: a pen, paper and a bottle of water. Any gadgets are prohibited, but they won’t help either – the jury of the Olympiad is carefully watching everyone, it’s definitely impossible to write off. Three hours were allotted for writing the final stage in all subjects.

Half an hour before the start, we ask a couple of questions to future journalists. “I am very calm. Knowledge is my main strength. I am sure that they will help me pass this test with dignity,” said Alexandra from Podolsk. — Journalism is an amazing opportunity to combine two things you love: the art of creating and the art of writing. I want to burn people’s hearts with a verb.”

Silence reigns in the audience, the commission of the Olympiad conducts the final briefing. Students receive tasks and immerse themselves in their solution. A large proportion of the participants in the final stage are guys who came from the regions. For them, this is a great chance to realize themselves in their studies and build a dizzying career in the future.

“Our Olympiad is a socially significant project primarily for regional participants. According to the statistics of previous years, about 70%, and in some subjects 80% of the winners and prize-winners of the final stage, are children from the regions. “Conquer Sparrow Hills!” is a ticket, without exaggeration, to the best university in the country, a ticket to the wonderful world of Moscow University students,” said Deputy Vice-Rector, Deputy Head of the Department for Work with Talented Youth of Moscow State University, Associate Professor, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Mikhail Kopchikov.

Golden students for the best universities in Russia

In the nineteenth season, out of 2,000 participants in the final stage, 300 of the country’s strongest schoolchildren will become finalists. The winners will receive unique benefits for admission to higher educational institutions in Russia. This may be the maximum score for the Unified State Examination in a specialized subject or in an additional entrance test, or admission without exams to Moscow State University or to another university. Disciplines this year: geography, journalism, foreign language, history, literature, mathematics, social studies and physics.

The winner of the Olympiad “Conquer Sparrow Hills!” remain not only schoolchildren, but also educational institutions. Every university in Russia dreams of getting such talented students. In the city of Kemerovo, Kemerovo State University has become a regional platform this year for the fourth time.

“The main goal of the Olympiad is to gather talented children from all over the country and give them the opportunity to enter the best universities in Russia. Of course, we want these guys to become our students. But other federal and regional universities also compete for them, which, for obvious reasons, do not want to let gifted children go to Moscow,” said Nadezhda Zhdanova, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, head of the group of teachers at Moscow State University hosting the Olympiad in Kemerovo.

Oleg Vorobyov, the head of regional and international projects of MK, cited statistics according to which, over the 19 years of the Olympiad, not a single Olympiad student has been expelled from Moscow State University for poor progress. “This means that really talented and worthy guys who understand why they need a quality education win,” he concluded.

Comfortable conditions for the finalists

“In addition to the resumption of the full-time format, several more important innovations have appeared in the Olympiad. From this season, the final stage is held simultaneously, that is, at the same time at all venues in the country, regardless of the time zone of its location. And the teachers who supervise the finals receive tasks shortly before the start. In addition, after checking all the works for those who want to see their verified work, the organizers of the Olympiad will place it in the participant’s personal account, at his request, which will give the intellectual competition even more transparency and objectivity,” continued the executive secretary of the Olympiad Mikhail Kopchikov.

In Chelyabinsk, the final of the Olympiad was hosted by Educational Center No. 5. Numerous participants from all over the Urals traditionally come to this city for the final stage. Maria Ermolaeva, head of the MK public relations service, spoke about the important financial support provided to the participants of the Conquer Sparrow Hills Olympiad! organizers.

“We, as organizers, bear the cost of travel. For the past two years, the Olympiad has been written remotely, and now we are very happy to return to the previous format and see those ambitious guys who apply for admission to the best universities in Moscow, ”said Maria.

The leadership of the Educational Center No. 5 approached the preparation for the finals of the Olympiad responsibly. According to the director of the center Yevgeny Marchenko, rest rooms were available for the children and their worried parents. In addition, a psychological center worked on the site, where worried participants could turn.

Organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University and the federal newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets, the Olympiad is a serious springboard for ambitious and talented schoolchildren.
