In Karelia, participants of the kite marathon “Trans-Onego” completed a 400-kilometer marathon

On Monday, March 6, the Trans-Onego winter kite marathon ended. All-Russian snowkiting competitions are held annually on Lake Onega, the participants cover an extra long distance for several days.

As the group “Sport is the norm of life in Karelia” said, this year about 60 athletes decided to compete for the victory, divided into teams of two people. Residents of Karelia, Komi, Moscow, Kostroma, Cheboksary and Yaroslavl, as well as Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Leningrad regions took part.

The athletes went to the start on Thursday, February 2. In 4 days they covered 400 kilometers. Organizers explainedthat, according to the decision of the teams, the finish line took place in Medvezhyegorsk, 28 kilometers earlier than the last checkpoint. We had to finish the marathon a little earlier than planned due to lack of wind.

The first place was taken by Vladimir Lukyanov from Cherepovets and Eduard Radaev from Zapolyarny – the Northerners team. The second to the finish line was a pair of “Ginger jet”, which was made up of guests from St. Petersburg Maria Ryzhankova and Boris Filimonov. The third place went to the Orient Express team, consisting of the presidents of the Sailing Federations of Karelia and the Murmansk Region, Dmitry Nikulichev and Farid Arslanov.
