The first flight of the new H3 rocket was aborted due to a second stage engine ignition failure. About it reported Kyodo agency.
As a result, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) accepted decision to give the command to destroy. “The kill command was sent to H3 around 10:52 (04:52 Moscow time) because there was no way to complete the mission. We confirm the situation,” the statement said.
It is specified that the launch of the H3 rocket took place from the Tanegashima cosmodrome on the southern island of Japan at about 10:37 (04:37 Moscow time). According to the JAXA plan, the first stage was supposed to separate 303 seconds after launch, and the satellite was supposed to separate after 16.7 minutes. The command to destroy was given at 10:52 (04:52 Moscow time).
The H3 rocket was originally scheduled to launch in 2020, but was delayed several times due to problems with the main engine. Subsequently, it was decided to launch in mid-February. But it was delayed three times due to bad weather and problems with the flight plan update system. As a result, the previous launch attempt was supposed to take place on February 17, but the rocket did not take off.
The H3 is Japan’s largest liquid propellant launch vehicle. Its length is 57 m, diameter – 5.2 m, carrying capacity – from 4 to 6.5 tons. The H3 was supposed to replace the H-2A booster, which has been in service since the early 2000s.
