The Israeli authorities have postponed consideration of the issue of ownership of the Alexander Metochion, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of the spiritual mission of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad, Archimandrite Roman (Krasovsky).
The decision was reportedly made against the backdrop of the worsening Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The consideration of the issue of the Alexander Metochion was only to be carried out by a government commission in November.
“But because of the war, the issue was postponed,” said Archimandrite Roman. He also noted that the issue could be considered early next year, and the topic has been relevant in recent years.
The Alexander Metochion in Jerusalem is located near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It was built in the 19th century. Discussions around the courtyard began after 1917. The Palestinian Orthodox Society (POS), operating under the omophorion of the ROCOR, as well as the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in Russia, claim ownership rights.
