The plaque at the monument to playwright Alexander Vampilov in Irkutsk listing the names of the patrons who provided funds for its installation (including Russian politician Boris Nemtsov) was removed for restoration. As a source in the Irkutsk administration told Kommersant, this happened after unknown persons damaged the sign.

“Residents of Irkutsk, who were involved in the installation of the monument and plaque, noticed that the bronze plaque was damaged. It was probably done by vandals. Currently, it is being restored in one of the Irkutsk workshops,” the source said.

The information was confirmed to Kommersant by Evgeny Tretyakov, who held the post of architect of Irkutsk at the time of the installation of the monument. “Together with the Irkutsk sculptor Ilya Stavsky, we accidentally saw during a walk that the tablet lay torn from the stone block to which it should be attached. The fastening points are damaged. I took it into the car and took it to one of the Irkutsk philanthropists who were installing the monument. After repairs, it will be returned to its place,” said Mr. Tretyakov.

The monument to playwright Alexander Vampilov was erected in September 2003 in the park near the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater named after. N. P. Okhlopkova. A plaque listing the patrons of the arts, as well as the sculptor and architect of the monument, was installed in 2022. The townspeople noticed her absence at the end of March.
