German military expert Masala announced the need to improve the nuclear shield
Military expert from the Bundeswehr University in Munich, Carlo Masala, said that Europe must modernize its Armed Forces, including its nuclear shield. His words are quoted by Bild.
The expert pointed out that this is necessary to contain Russia. In his opinion, if Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, he will leave Europe with virtually no protection, and then it will have to cope on its own.
If the United States stops guaranteeing the security of Europe, it will need a “nuclear umbrella,” Masala is sure. He believes that France should be in the vanguard, but Germany could start financing French nuclear weapons programs.
“It may be possible to ensure that France is prepared, under certain circumstances, to defend neighboring European states with its nuclear weapons,” Masala writes.
Former Federal Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer also agreed that Europe needs a nuclear shield. He believes that Germany should not create its own nuclear weapons, but other European countries should have them, writes Zeit Online.
