The authorities of the city of Vienne in southeastern France decided to remove the flag of Ukraine from the facade of the city hall because of the words of the country’s President Vladimir Zelensky about Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. About it reported newspaper Le Dauphine Libere.
The Ukrainian flag was hung on the facade of the Vienne city hall in February 2022. According to the mayor’s office, the decision to remove the flag was made in connection with statements by the President of Ukraine after his telephone conversation with the President of Azerbaijan on October 4. After the conversation, Zelensky himself wrote on the Telegram channel that he thanked Baku for humanitarian assistance, in particular in the energy sector.
City officials say it is “impossible to ignore the fact that Azerbaijan used gas sales to finance military action against Armenia.” “We cannot rely on Western values and, on this basis, call on the West for help, while sharing the vision of the regime underlying the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh,” the mayor’s office noted.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures.” The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. On September 28, the president of the unrecognized republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024 and the dissolution of all government institutions and organizations.
According to official data, Armenia has received more than 100,000 internally displaced persons from Karabakh.
