Due to the difficulties encountered with the transfer of funds from the Russian Federation to the European Union, Estonia proposed to pay pensions to elderly Russian citizens who live in the republic from the country’s budget. This is reported by the national broadcasting portal ERR.
It is noted that Russia failed three times to transfer pension funds to its citizens in another country. Because of this, more than 4 thousand pensioners were left without payments.
Director General of the Estonian Social Insurance Department Maret Maripuu stated that the necessary amount of money (more than 1 million euros) is on the account of the department in the Belarusian Priorbank. However, a branch of the commercial bank Swedbank refuses to accept Russian money from Belarus.
In this case, Maripuu sent a letter to the ministers of social security and finance with a proposal to pay pensioners for the third quarter of this year from the Estonian state budget as an exception.
