According to Delfi, an administrative case was opened in Tallinn against two men who took a speaker into the courtyard of an apartment building and played the Russian Anthem at full volume.

The police said they regard such actions in public space as “a public display of a symbol associated with the commission of an act of aggression.” They added that in today’s situation, this is clearly perceived as “support for the war in Ukraine.”

Estonia passed a law banning the use of “hostile symbols” last year. Such symbols include, among others, St. George’s ribbons, the “Z” symbol, the flags of Russia and the USSR, and Soviet military uniforms. In this case, the punishment includes a fine of 1,200 euros or arrest. And if a legal entity is found guilty, the fine may amount to 32 thousand euros.
