In Egypt, found a tomb with ten mummies of crocodiles

In the ancient Egyptian necropolis of Qubbet el-Hawa, located near the city of Aswan, Spanish archaeologists discovered a tomb with mummies of crocodiles. Ten individuals were mummified, five of which were found with skulls, and one was preserved in the form of an almost complete mummy.

It is assumed that the mummification of crocodiles in the 5th century BC. The tomb is unusual in that only animals are buried in it.

Among the animals were both Nile and West African crocodiles, that is, representatives of two different species. Details about how they were mummified could not be clarified.

The crocodile was associated with Sebek, an ancient Egyptian deity who was “responsible” for water, including the flood of the Nile.
