In Dagestan, a prominent theologian was fired for “unauthorized speech” on Palestine

Magomed-Rasul Saaduev, an employee of the masliat department (a form of reconciliation and resolution of conflict situations in the Caucasus) of the Muftiate of Dagestan, was dismissed from his position for “unauthorized speeches”, reported Telegram channel of a religious organization.
“All employees of the Muftiate were informed of the Mufti’s instructions not to make unauthorized and loud statements that disturb the Dagestanis, taking into account the Dagestani mentality,” the Muftiate explained the decision to dismiss one of the leaders of the organization. “Despite this, Saaduev, on his own responsibility, made a statement on Friday about that “the entire Muslim world considers what is happening in Palestine to be jihad.” We see the passivity of the entire Muslim world regarding the terrible genocide that is happening today in Palestine. And even the Muslim countries neighboring Palestine. It is enough that we all today are in solidarity with this terrible tragedy, that Palestinians are dying as martyrs in their homes.”
On the initiative of the Mufti of Dagestan, collective night prayers and dua (a personal appeal of a Muslim to Allah) are held in all mosques, the muftiate recalled. “Unauthorized speech is unworthy and is not encouraged for employees of any serious organization,” the notice says. “Saaduev has previously made similar unconfirmed statements and received a warning that the opinion expressed out loud must be responsible and collegial.”
Magomed-Rasul Saaduev, the former imam of the Juma Mosque of Makhachkala, was appointed head of the reconciliation department of the muftiate in November 2021.
Last Monday he recorded also a video message after tough statements the head of the republic Sergei Melikov in relation to those who took part in the riots.
Magomed-Rasul Saaduev appealed to the authorities of the republic and personally to the head of Dagestan with a request to soften the attitude towards the guilty, expressing confidence that each of them repented of their deeds and is ready to fully compensate for the damage caused.
Yesterday Mr. Melikov Meets with the head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs Igor Barinov and the Mufti of Dagestan Akhmad Abdulaev. And at a meeting with social activists, he highly praised the activities of the religious organization. “The Muftiate of Dagestan works the way it should work,”— said He.
