The Croatian court rejected the request of five refugees from Chechnya to grant them the status of political refugees and international protection. These people left Russia because they allegedly did not want to take part in the hostilities in Ukraine. This news was confirmed by the representative of the “Assembly of Chechens of Europe” Isa Daduev.
If this decision comes into force, the refugees may be deported back to Russia. At the moment they are in the center for migrants, and the final decision on their fate has not yet been made.
A representative of the “Assembly of Chechens of Europe” said that the interpreters who took part in the trial said that the refusal was issued without any evidence and was based on the assumption that the applicants for the status were Islamist extremists.
