China’s Manned Flight Program Administration (CMSA) announced the start of the selection of a new detachment of taikonauts for manned flights to the Tiangong station.
A total of 12 to 14 candidates will reportedly be selected. Of these, 7-8 cosmonaut pilots, 5-6 flight engineers and payload specialists.
The selection will be made from among the active pilots of the People’s Liberation Army of China. Aerospace engineers will be selected from research and engineering specialists, the CMSA said.
It should be noted that the first recruitment of the detachment settled in 1998, then in 2010 and 2020. Thus, the announced selection will be the fourth in the history of China’s space exploration.
