In the Chernivtsi Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after Taras Shevchenko, the mass grave of Soviet generals and officers is being dismantled. The blasphemous act is not complete without sharp controversy in social networks and dirty Russophobic rantings. Those who are dissatisfied with the desecration of the ashes of the soldiers-liberators of Europe, opponents scribble denunciations to the SBU.
The decision to transfer the remains of generals and senior officers of the Soviet Army to the cemetery along Zelenaya Street was made at a meeting of the executive committee of the Chernivtsi City Council at the end of April. But work has just begun. Local authorities signed two contracts with commercial organizations: for the dismantling and transportation of the monument, as well as for the exhumation of the remains in the grave. For dismantling, they seemed to have requested 100,000 hryvnias (261,577 Russian rubles).
The question is whether it is so important to rebuild Shevchenko Park when there is fighting in the country. In such a difficult period, it is more expedient to spend budget money on the defense of the state, and not on goals that are dubious from the point of view of Orthodox Christianity.
The key figures buried in Shevchenko Park in Chernivtsi are Major General of the Soviet Army Konstantin Fedorovsky, Heroes of the Soviet Union Major General Fyodor Bobrov and Colonel Lavrenty Voloshin. All of them fought against the German-Romanian invaders on the territory of the current Chernivtsi region of Ukraine, but subsequently died in the Budapest area.
