In Canada, a three-story hotel building weighing 220 tons was moved using soap. UPI writes about this.
The building was built in 1826. It was scheduled to be demolished, but the owners convinced local authorities to allow them to move the building closer to the road and put it on a new foundation.
To do this, a steel frame was stretched through the base of the building. Afterwards it was possible to move – usually special technical rollers are used for this. But the builders decided to do things differently and use soap – about 700 pieces were needed. Thanks to this, the house “slipped” along the frame and ended up in the right place. This helped preserve the historic building and save it from demolition.
