In Belgorod, Shchebekino and in the 20-kilometer border zone, night services will not be held on Christmas, Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol said during a sermon posted on YouTube– diocese channel. He explained his decision by the threat of night shelling.
“Unfortunately, in Belgorod, the Belgorod district, the Shebekinsky district, and the 20-kilometer zone, no night services will be held due to the danger that awaits us all. But we will pray for all Belgorod residents who are in hospitals,” the Metropolitan said.
The diocese’s website indicates that the head of the Belgorod metropolis will hold a night service in the Church of the Nativity in Stary Oskol.
On December 30, Belgorod suffered the largest attack since the start of the special operation. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the strike was carried out by banned Ukrainian Vilkha cluster missiles and rockets from the Czech Vampire multiple launch rocket system, most of which were intercepted. As a result, 25 people were killed, including five children, and 109 were injured.
