Belarus today is facing an increased risk of intervention from Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and Poland, said the deputy chairman of the KGB of the republic, Sergei Terebov, transmits BelTA.
“Today we are seeing a growing threat of external intervention from the territory of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine,” he said.
According to Terebov, the Belarusians, who left the republic for political reasons, are preparing a scenario for the forceful change of the constitutional order. In the winter, he claims, they intend to “start building up” the student and teaching communities.
The day before, November 15, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus reported on the scheduled verification of the credentials of persons liable for military service. The President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko gave the corresponding order in early October.
On October 7, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that, if necessary, the republic maybe put up a resource of 500,000 trained military. Later, on October 20, he spoke about the onset of a “hot phase” in relations between Belarus and the West. He again pointed to the concentration of troops from Poland and Ukraine to the border with Belarus. Shortly thereafter, Lukashenka declared that Belarus had no plans to fight anyone.
