In Bashkiria, after the protests of residents, the license from a gold mining company was revoked ahead of schedule

Privolzhsknedra revoked the license for geological exploration from the Eurasian Gold Mining Company ahead of schedule, including the prospecting and evaluation of ore gold reserves at the Baikarinsko-South-Uvaryazhsky site in the Baimaksky district of Bashkiria. The corresponding decision was made by the department’s commission, the license for the right to use subsoil will cease to be valid from November 15. The Eurasian Mining Company received a five-year license for geological exploration of the subsoil in April 2022. The site on which she planned to work, almost completely surrounds the village of Ishmurzino, whose inhabitants opposed the exploration. They feared that the activity of the gold miner would lead to the degradation of pastures and deprive the population of drinking water. On April 28, a people’s gathering agreed with the authorities took place in the village, at which the village head and the headman were “re-elected”. In the municipality, the decisions of the meeting were considered illegal. After that, the chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to check the legality of gold mining in the village of Ishmurzino.

In May, Kommersant learned that the Eurasian Mining Company intends to refuse from the geological study of the deposit. According to Mr. Abdrakhmanov, the decision was made by the gold miner “after lengthy negotiations” with the authorities.

After the events in Ishmurzino, a people’s gathering passed in the village of Temyasovo. The reason for it was the permission to conduct a geological study of the Irendyk Range to search for manganese reserves. The local authorities allowed the organizers to hold the public event in the form of a meeting. However, the participants voted for it to be held in the form of a gathering. After that, the police drew up an administrative protocol under Part 1 of Art. 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for holding a public event). The Baimaksky District Court fined the organizer of the gathering, Ilsur Irnazarov, in the amount of 10,000 rubles.
