Anapa hosted the third round of the Russian rugby sevens championship. Krasnodar “Kuban” achieved the highest result for themselves in the season, taking 3rd place.
A total of 9 teams participated in the tournament. “Kuban” got into group “A”, where there were 4 more participants. In the opening match, the team of Maxim Amonov defeated the Kazan “Zilant” with a score of 21:10, then beat the National League team even more confidently – 22:7. In the third match, the Krasnodar team had to play with the current champions of Russia and the leader of the current draw, CSKA Moscow. The victory went to the capital team – 27:0. In the final match of the group stage, Kuban defeated Krasny Yar from Krasnoyarsk with a score of 26:0 and took second place, thus getting into the playoff games.
In the semi-finals, Kuban failed to give a fight to VVA-Podmoskovye, losing 0:34. But in the match for the third place, the Krasnodar team managed to defeat the Krasnoyarsk Yenisei in the most stubborn struggle – 19:12.
In the first two rounds, Kuban took fourth place in Krasnoyarsk and a week earlier also in Anapa. In the overall standings, the Krasnodar team of the championship are also fourth.
In the final of the third round, CSKA beat VVA-Podmoskovye with 14:5 and strengthened its leadership in the tournament.
The remaining 4 rounds of the Russian Championship will be held in the first half of 2023.
