In addition to patriotism, Russia also needs specialists – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Council for Science and Education that for a country to be successful, only a patriotic attitude is not enough – it also needs specialists. They, according to the head of state, should be prepared by the school.

“Of course, we need to pay attention to all the subjects that form a full-fledged personality, a patriot, a person who loves his homeland, is ready, and we now know and this is important, for self-sacrifice, and so on. But we need specialists in every field; just a patriotic spirit is not enough for the country to be successful,” the president said (quoted by “RIA News”).

Vladimir Putin added that schools should not only educate patriots, but also train good specialists. According to him, it is necessary to continue the trend where increased attention is paid to the study of mathematics, physics and chemistry. The President clarified that the country needs closer connections between schools, universities, research centers and the economy.

The President invited the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov and the Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov to discuss this issue. Such a program, as Vladimir Putin said, must be done in cooperation with the regions.
