A photo of a statue of a naked man in the center of Nakhodka, where “genitals” can be seen, has led to a dispute among Internet users, complaints to the mayor’s office and an act of vandalism. The statue was installed a long time ago, but for some time it was hidden by a fence.
Critics on the Internet have expressed the view that the naturalistic and “detailed” depiction of the genitals is inappropriate in the city center and can be interpreted as the distribution of pornography. Proponents of the opposite point of view mentioned that the statues in the antique style depict a naked body and are not pornography.
The authors of the complaints to the mayor’s office expressed doubt that the statue had artistic value, which, in accordance with Russian law, distinguishes pornography from works of art.
Without waiting for the reaction of the mayor’s office, local residents tore off the “genitals” from the statue.
