The overall mortality rate of the Russian population in 2023 decreased by 7%, Deputy Minister of Health Evgeny Kamkin said during parliamentary hearings in the Federation Council. According to him, this is the best figure since the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Mr. Kamkin said, over the past year the Ministry of Health also recorded a historical minimum infant mortality rate – 4.2 ppm per 1 thousand children born, reports “RIA News”. The department’s measures are aimed at increasing life expectancy, the deputy minister noted. In 2023, the figure was 73.4 years, 0.8 years more than the previous year.
In January Rosstat introduced high and low variants of demographic forecast until 2046. The positive option assumes achieving a minimum mortality rate in 2029 – 1.46 million people. At the same time, in the next six years the number will grow, but will not exceed 1%, according to Rosstat. In 2024, the number of deaths, according to the service, will be 1.76 million people. According to Rosstat’s negative scenario, the number of deaths in Russia will increase throughout most of the forecast period.
