At the end of 2022, the number of cases of high and extremely high air pollution in Russia decreased by half compared to 2021. During the year, about 209 such incidents were recorded, a third of them were in the Samara region. This was reported by the press service of the audit and consulting network Fineexpertiza with reference to its study based on Roshydromet data.
In total, 201 cases of high and 8 cases of extremely high air pollution were detected during the year. Over the year, the number of cases of extremely high air pollution decreased by almost five times – from 37 to 8, high – almost twice – from 386 to 201. Most of these incidents were recorded in the first quarter of 2022, in the second quarter there were practically none.
The main pollutants were benzpyrene and hydrogen sulfide. There were also cases of pollution with suspended solids, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen dioxide.
Most of these cases were detected in the Samara region – there were 60 such incidents in a year. In second place is the Irkutsk region (46 cases), the third – the Orenburg region (20). The reduction in incidents was due to reduced emissions in Norilsk.
