Ilya Yashin sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison for fake news about the army

The Meshchansky Court of Moscow sentenced the opposition leader and former metropolitan municipal deputy Ilya Yashin (recognized as a foreign agent) to 8 years and 6 months in a penal colony. Earlier it recognized guilty of spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The prosecutor’s office requested 9 years in prison for him.
Ilya Yashin is also banned from administering Internet resources for four years.
A criminal case against Ilya Yashin was opened this summer, he is in jail. According to investigators, in April 2022, Ilya Yashin, live on his YouTube channel, “spread deliberately false information about the killings of civilians by the RF Armed Forces in the city of Bucha.” Mr. Yashin pleaded not guilty.
On December 5, during the debate of the parties, prosecutor Sergei Belov asked Ilya Yashin for nine years in a penal colony, as well as a ban on administering Internet resources for four years.
