Illinois Passes First Law to Protect Influencer Money

The state of Illinois (USA) passed the first law in the country to protect the income of child influencers, writes Business Insider.
Gov. Jay Robert Pritzker signed into law a bill that would make children under the age of 16 who are influencers or whose parents share content with them on social media effective July 1, 2024, eligible for a percentage of income. The money will be transferred to a trust account until the child reaches the age of 18. If this condition is not met, the children will be able to sue.
There are certain limits. So, content must bring at least 10 cents per view, in which children appear in at least 30% of photos and videos published in the last 30 days.
Earlier, 15-year-old Shreya Nallamotu advocated similar rules in her letter to State Senator David Koehler. The legislator prepared a bill to protect child stars on social networks, which became the first in the United States.
The novelty was developed by analogy with the “Bill Coogan” in 1939. Silent film actor Jackie Coogan is suing his parents after they squandered his earnings on set. Legislators after the rising resonance obliged the parents of child actors to transfer 15% of the child’s fee to a bank account until they reach adulthood.
Coogan’s Bill is now active in several states, and a law to protect child influencers is being prepared for adoption in Washington.
