IIHF upheld sanctions against goalkeeper Fedotov and CSKA – Kommersant

The Disciplinary Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) rejected the appeals of CSKA and goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov against the decision to sanction the club and the player. This is reported on website IIHF. At the same time, the appeal of the Russian Hockey Federation on the same issue has not yet been considered, reported FHR General Director Dmitry Kurbatov.

IIHF August 14 decidedthat Ivan Fedotov did not have the right to sign a contract with CSKA, since at that time he had a valid agreement with the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers. In this regard, the hockey player was disqualified until the end of the year. The CSKA club was prohibited from registering international transfers next season.

CSKA did not agree with the IIHF’s decision, accusing the federation of protecting the interests of the NHL. This season, Fedotov played 23 matches.

In 2022, Ivan Fedotov, after winning the Gagarin Cup with CSKA, signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers club. In the summer of the same year, he was detained at the military registration and enlistment office and sent to a military unit for military service.

In the summer of 2023, after finishing his service, Fedotov announced his desire to continue playing for CSKA. On July 8, 2023, the KHL registered a new contract with CSKA. The National Hockey League and Philadelphia insist that the hockey player’s 2022 agreement must be valid through the 2023/24 season.
