Former Minister of Defense of the DPR and ex-FSB officer Igor Strelkov (Girkin) did not admit guilt at the first hearing in a criminal case on calls for extremism. This was reported by TASS lawyer of the defendant Gadzhi Aliyev. The hearings are held behind closed doors.
“During today’s hearing in the Moscow City Court, the indictment was read to Strelkov. My client categorically disagreed with the arguments of this document and did not admit guilt,” said Igor Strelkov’s lawyer. The next hearing in the case will be held on December 20.
In November, in a letter written in a pre-trial detention center, Igor Strelkov called on his supporters to form a headquarters to support him in the presidential elections in March 2024. Being a criminal defendant does not prevent him from running for president, but if he is convicted before the election, he will not be able to participate in the election campaign.
Igor Strelkov has been under arrest on charges of extremism since July 2023. According to him, the basis for initiating the case were two posts on Telegram about the possible surrender of Crimea to Ukraine and problems with the military’s allowance. On December 7, the court extended his arrest for another six months.
