On November 18, the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo hockey players played a home match as part of the KHL regular championship for the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod returned home after a long trip to rivals in the Western and Eastern Conferences, and played on the ice of KRK Nagorny against Dynamo Moscow, one of the main competitors in the fight for the top 3 in the Western Conference.
Igor Larionov’s team managed to celebrate their return to home ice with a victory. Torpedo defeated Dynamo Moscow with a score of 3:1, beating the blue and whites in the second head-to-head match of the season. The victory over Dynamo showed that the Nizhny Novgorod team had recovered well after a long away series and were well prepared physically, although in the matches against Siberia and Amur they clearly could not keep up with their fresher opponents.
Igor Larionov spoke about the long away series.
“We said after the last match in Novosibirsk that it is clear: fatigue, the calendar, the huge scale of our country, travel, logistics – all this, of course, affects the guys, affects their rest… But nevertheless, good teams find the opportunity to win such matches: quickly shake off the failures that have occurred and leave them aside,” said Igor Larionov.
