There was an international pause in the Russian Football Championship among Mir-RPL teams due to the participation of players in matches of national teams. All European teams, except Russia, are participating in the qualifying tournament for the European Championship, which will be held in the summer of 2024 in Germany. The Russian national team was suspended from official matches under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA in March 2022. After this, Valery Karpin’s team participated exclusively in friendly matches.
On November 20, the Russian team will play another friendly match with not the strongest team in the world ranking. At the Volgograd Arena stadium, the Russian national team will play a friendly match against the Cuban national team. The island nation’s team is ranked 169th in the FIFA rankings and has only taken part in the World Cup once.
Igor Kolyvanov shared his expectations from the Russian national team’s match against Cuba.
“No one knows Cuba at all, I don’t even know what to expect. I expect more goals from our team. I don’t know what our mood will be, it’s very difficult to prepare against such teams. Maybe they will try different options, sketches, other schemes – not I know what Karpin will come up with. It’s clear that we need to beat Cuba and try to score as many goals as possible,” said Igor Kolyvanov.
