Ian Nepomniachtchi reached the final of the Fischer World Chess Championship, in which he will play with the American Hikaru Nakamura. In the 1/2 finals, the Russian beat the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen in three of four games. Competitions are held in Reykjavik.
31-year-old Carlsen leads the ranking of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). He has been world champion since 2013 – he defended the title four times. 32-year-old Nepomniachtchi is ranked third in the ranking of chess players. In 2021, he lost to the Norwegian in the match for the world chess crown.
The rules of Fischer’s chess differ from the usual ones in that the pieces behind the pawns are randomly placed symmetrically to each other. This version of the game was invented by the 11th world champion American Bobby Fischer.
