Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren tied in the eighth game of the match for the chess crown

Russian grandmaster Yang Nepomniachtchi and China’s Ding Liren have agreed to a draw in the eighth game of the match for the world chess crown. The duel ended on the 45th move. The Russian keeps the lead – 4.5:3.5.
The ninth game will take place on 21 April. Ian Nepomniachtchi will play with white pieces. In total, 14 games are planned for the match for the world title. For an early victory, one of the grandmasters must score 7.5 points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw).
Jan Nepomniachtchi is 32 years old. He won the Russian Championship twice (2010, 2020), the World Team Championship twice (2013, 2019), became the European Champion (2010). In 2021, in the fight for the world title, Nepomniachtchi lost to Magnus Carlsen with a score of 3.5:7.5.
Ding Liren is 30 years old. He won the 2019 Grand Chess Tour and won the Chinese Championship three times (2009, 2011, 2012).
